SDLT (Stamp Duty Land Tax) – how do I pay it?
In most circumstances, you solicitor or advisor will calculate your SDLT for you, and add it to their fees, such as when purchasing a property, however on occasion you will need to file the return and pay the tax yourself. It is always your responsibility to calculate and pay your own SDLT tax.
Once you have calculated the tax due, as per the link above, you can register to pay your SDLT online through your government gateway account, using the link here:- https://www.gov.uk/sdlt-online
You can pay the tax from the website link above, or from your own online banking facility, the bank details are here:- https://www.gov.uk/guidance/pay-stamp-duty-land-tax
If you are buying a property and are not represented by a solicitor or advisor, please note that you will have to file a paper return, we would advise that you speak to a professional before making any purchases of this kind, so that you are fully aware of the consequences of the purchase and to make the filing of this tax simpler.
Please contact us if you have any questions regarding Stamp duty Land tax filing and payments.
